Free Poetry Submissions
Our magazine was founded in January 2022. Since then, we’ve published one issue every quarter, featuring contributors from around the world – and it’s totally free to submit.

Poetry Competitions – with Prizes!
We announced our first poetry competition in April 2023, with a prize of $100 for the winning poem and publication as a standalone piece on our site.
Unlike our issue submissions, we accept multiple entries for the competitions; and there is a small fee of $3.49 to enter, which helps cover our operating costs.
Newsletter Features
5 Line Features is a newsletter segment, where we highlight a new poet every week by featuring their poem of five lines or less.
You can gain access to 5 Line Features by subscribing to our mailing list. You’ll also get submission deadline reminders and you’ll be the first to know about new competitions.
Poet Interviews
We publish interviews with our contributor poets, where they give us all the behind-the-scenes details from the poem we published – plus some trade secrets.

The Magazine
Free the Verse is a quarterly poetry magazine, designed to showcase the work of emerging and established poets. We believe poetry deserves a carved-out space in the online world. It’s certainly powerful enough to stand on its own.

The Prompts
Our journal is an offshoot of @poetry.prompt, an Instagram community that inspires poets to keep honing their craft through consistent writing. We post prompts twice a week and feature our favourite poems.

The Poet
Our founder, poet Zara Kassem has been published in over a dozen literary magazines. Inspired by the dedication of volunteers in digital publishing, she created Free the Verse to give back to the community and elevate the voices of others.
